What Is WISMO? The Order Tracking App for Freelancers and Small Sellers
Short answer: WISMO is a mobile app for people who take orders through conversations rather than a checkout. You create an order in seconds, share a link, and your customer checks their own order status instead of messaging you. It’s free for up to 10 active orders, available on iOS and Android, and your customer never installs anything.
If you searched for “WISMO” you probably found articles about the e-commerce acronym — “Where Is My Order?”, the industry term for post-purchase status inquiries.
This is a different thing sharing the same four letters. The name is a deliberate nod: the app exists to answer that question. For the acronym itself — what causes it, what it costs, how it relates to WISMR — see the WISMO glossary.
The problem it solves
If your orders arrive through DMs, messages or word of mouth, you’re probably tracking them in a spreadsheet, a notes app, or your head. When a customer asks for status, you dig through chat history to reconstruct the answer.
That works until it doesn’t. The failure isn’t dramatic — you forget a due date, you tell someone the wrong thing, you spend an hour a week repeating information you already know.
How does WISMO work?
- Create the order — customer, item description, due date, price, advance. Well under a minute on a phone.
- Share the tracking link — one tap to send via WhatsApp, SMS, email or any messenger.
- Update status as you work — the customer sees the change on their page without you writing a message.
- Record payments — advance, partial, full, with the payment method.
Your customer never downloads anything. They tap the link and get a page with your business name, their order details, current status, a timeline of updates, and your contact details.
Do customers actually use it?
Worth answering with data rather than a claim, since it’s the whole premise.
Across the 93 orders whose tracking page was opened at least once — 24 sellers, March to August 2026 — customers opened it a median of 7 times before the order was finished. Nearly a quarter of orders were opened more than 20 times, and one was opened 187 times.
Sellers update at a comparable rate: 3.1 status updates per order on average, across all 983 updates recorded on 226 orders. The median order goes from created to completed in 1.7 days (across 120 completed orders) — this cohort skews toward quick-turnaround work, so read that as their mix rather than as how long custom orders take generally.
That’s a small dataset — 226 orders from 33 sellers — and it’s published in full with its limits, including the fact that it counts orders where a seller actually shared a link.
Who is WISMO for?
People who sell through conversation rather than a catalogue:
- Home bakers and cake makers — orders with fixed event dates and design briefs
- Commission artists — briefs, revision stages, staged payments
- Jewellers and makers — custom pieces with payment milestones
- Tailors and designers — measurements, fittings, alterations
- Wedding and event planners — long lead times where clients want visible progress
- Freelancers of most kinds — anyone taking orders through messaging
The common thread isn’t the craft. It’s that the order is agreed in a conversation and then takes days or weeks, during which the customer is waiting and wondering.
Where sellers are
The app is not region-specific, and the seller base isn’t either. Across current accounts there are 11 currencies and 15 timezones in use, with the majority of sellers on a currency other than INR:
Practically: you pick your currency at signup, amounts display in it everywhere, and scheduled reminders arrive at a sensible local hour rather than a fixed one.
What does WISMO do?
- Fast order creation from a phone, no setup or configuration
- Branded tracking pages — no JavaScript, so they load instantly on any connection
- One-tap sharing to WhatsApp and other messengers
- Payment tracking — advance, partial and full, with the method recorded
- Automatic customer emails on status change (Pro)
- Customer view — every order for a given customer in one place
- Analytics — revenue, order volume, trends (Pro)
- Nothing to install for your customer — the tracking page opens in a browser
What does WISMO deliberately not do?
Worth being direct, because it saves people downloading the wrong tool:
- No inventory or cost-of-goods tracking. If you need to know your true per-unit cost, that’s a different category — see Stocksmith, formerly Craftybase.
- No invoicing or accounting. Billing software and order tracking are genuinely different jobs.
- No storefront or checkout. There’s no cart. If you need customers to buy without talking to you, you need a storefront instead.
- No payment processing. You take payment however you already do and record it.
- No team features. Built for solo operators. If two people need to work the same orders, Airtable is a better fit.
